Energy Union is a pan-European project to turn young people and policy makers onto Intelligent Energy.
Intelligent Energy is saving energy and producing it from clean, renewable sources.
Intelligent Energy is a better lifestyle!

In 2009 and 2010 Energy Union is touring through 24 cities in 12 countries across Europe. In Zagreb it will be presented on 13th and 14th of May with an audio-visual programme at Boogaloo club, as well as the daily programme featuring panel discussion hosted by Green Action and info programme in and in front of the Zagreb funicular waiting room.

"FUTURE IS RENEWABLE"
panel discussion by Green Action / Friends of the Earth Croatia

In the effort to point out that it is due time for a decisive action of replacing imported fossil fuels with local renewable energy sources, Green Action is organising a panel discussion on May 14, with representatives from relevant institutions participating, which will take place in Matica hrvatska. Hopefully, the discussion will not only familiarize the public with this issue, but also produce some concrete suggestions and solutions.

Croatia's new Energy Strategy is actually pulling us into the opposite direction: an overall waste of energy and an increasing import of fossil fuels. Apart from a poor Energy Strategy, there is a blatant lack of political will or vision in the institutions responsible, because they are not even implementing existing measures for encouraging the use of renewable energy sources. For example, the 200 million HRK that Croatian citizens had raised for the purpose of advancing the use of renewable energy sources, HEP (the national energy provider) spent for their own current expenses and other questionable payments.

The trend in the EU is evident: over half of power stations opened in 2009 operate on renewable energy sources (39% wind, 16% solar), while the amount of electricity produced in coal and nuclear power stations has decreased.

Existing technologies and the local potential for the use of renewable energy sources make a swift transition and a complete replacement of fossil fuels by the middle of the century a distinct possibility.

Except for being given legal protection as a monument of culture, Zagreb funincular railway symbolizes in this case the usage of public transport, as opposed to driving cars. Use public transport as often as possible! Save energy and protect the enviroment!

COLDCUT (Ninja Tune / UK)

The pioneering band Coldcut, consisting of Matt Black and Jonathan More, has produced especially for Energy Union tour a new audio-visual film about Intelligent Energy, an innovative live cinema in a typical Coldcut mash-up style! Coldcut are considered to be the “creators” of modern audiovisual music. The creators of “Techno-House” gave the genre of “Remix” a new direction. Produced together with Hexstatic in 1998, their hit “Timber” helped audiovisual music becoming popular far from the shores of the UK. Coldcut’s label Ninja Tune also stands for sound artists emphasising audiovisual music. Celebrating its twentieth anniversary, 2010 will see the release of Coldcut's new album, as well as the Solid Steel mix CD.

MARTYN (3924 / NL)

Coming from a background in D'n'B, Martyn took the world by surprise with a sizzling dubstep 12" release in 2007 which was definitely a breakthrough for Martyn into the wider dance music scene, turning him also into a highly in-demand remixer. Besides the usual dubstep, Martyn's DJ sets comprise of Detroit techno, Berlin dub house, synthfunk, hip hop and UK broken beats, which he simply sums up as "The Martyn Sound". No other album managed to top "Great Lenghts", released on his 3024 label in 2009, one of the most soulful, rhythmically rich and inviting albums of the year. For the 50th installment of Fabric's celebrated mix series Martyn layed down one of the freshest mixes you're likely to hear this year.
