Green City e.V. is an environmental organisation active in Munich, Germany.

Who or What is Green City?

Turning visions into positive reality for daily life, for the sake of people and the environment: that’s Green City. We’re a Munich NGO working to improve Munich’s quality of life through ecological urban planning since 1990. An engaged team, with more than 40 highly-active volunteers and hundreds of other activists, organise, co-ordinate and support numerous wide-reaching projects.

How do we do it?

Environmentally-friendly action is still too often linked with restrictions and an accusing manner. Of course, our own high standard of life and that of coming generations can only be preserved for the long term through sustainable, conscious handling of the environment. But who says that we therefore have to live a reduced, Spartan life, full of restrictions? Through our projects, we show that there’s another way; With creativity, farsighted vision, an eye for what’s “do-able” and a sense of fun, we bring sustainability into daily life.

Why do we do it?

Like our activities, our goals are ambitious:

1.Transport and urban design: Our goal is at least a 50% reduction in the driven kilometre from motorised private vehicles within Munich as compared to 1990.

2.Climate change action: Here we want at least a 50% reduction in Munich’s greenhouse gas emissions based on 1987.

Green City supports the goals of the Agenda 21 with all of it’s projects. The inclusion of normal citizens in our projects is therefore important, because local climate protection is impossible without them. We not only encourage citizens to contribute to protection of the environment and the political process but try to create the actual opportunities where they can participate.
